I am a yoga teacher, not a clinician
I hold a 500 hour teaching qualification from The Yoga Institute, Mumbai, and a 200 hour training from Sivananda Yoga Farm, California. I am not a doctor, a physiotherapist, a nutritionist or a mental health professional. Nothing I teach or say is medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Nothing here replaces care from a qualified professional, and nothing here should be used to delay seeking it.
Speak to your doctor first
Please consult a doctor before starting, particularly if you have or have had any of the following.
High or low blood pressure, or any heart condition
Any neck, back, shoulder or joint injury, or recent surgery
Glaucoma, detached retina or other eye conditions
Epilepsy, vertigo or a history of fainting
Osteoporosis
Pregnancy, or the months following childbirth
Any condition affecting your balance or your breathing
This list is not complete. If you are unsure, ask.
About inversions
This tradition includes inverted postures, including headstand and shoulderstand. They are taught carefully and progressively, and nobody is asked to do them before they are ready. They are not suitable for everyone. If any of the conditions above apply to you, tell me before your first class and an alternative from the same group will be given instead. A modified practice is a complete practice, not a lesser one.
Tell me what I need to know
You are asked at registration about anything affecting your practice. Please answer it honestly, and tell me if something changes during a batch. I can only adapt for what I know about. If you do not tell me, I cannot help you.
Classes are online, and that changes things
I am not in the room with you. I cannot physically adjust you, catch you, or help you if something goes wrong. I may not be able to see you clearly, or at all if your camera is off. So more rests on you than it would in a studio. Please practise where you have space and a stable floor, clear of furniture and hard edges, especially for balancing and inverted postures. Have water nearby. Make sure someone can reach you if you live alone and are attempting something new. In an emergency, call your local emergency number. Do not wait to message me.
Listen to your body
Stop if something hurts. Come out of a posture if you feel dizzy, breathless, faint or unwell. Rest whenever you need to, and rest for as long as you need. Nobody is watching to see whether you kept up. Discomfort and pain are different things, and learning to tell them apart is part of the practice. When in doubt, stop. You practise at your own risk, and you are responsible for your own limits.
Recordings
When you practise from a recording you are entirely unsupervised. Everything above matters more, not less. Please do not attempt a posture from a recording that you have not already been taught live.
Results
Students sometimes share what has changed for them, and those accounts are their own. They are not promises, and no particular outcome is offered or implied by these classes. Experiences differ, and yours will be yours.
Assumption of risk and release
This section matters. Please read it properly.
You understand the risks. Yoga is a physical activity. It carries a risk of injury, including muscle strain, joint injury, falls, dizziness and, rarely, more serious harm. That risk is greater in inverted and balancing postures, and greater again when practising unsupervised or from a recording.
You confirm you are fit to take part. By enrolling, you confirm that you have considered your own health, that you have consulted a doctor where appropriate, and that you have told me about anything relevant to your practice.
You accept that risk. You take part voluntarily and you accept full responsibility for any injury, loss or damage you may suffer, including where it results from your own actions, from exceeding your own limits, or from the condition of the space you practise in.
You release Vaidehi Yoga. To the fullest extent permitted by law, you release and hold harmless Vaidehi Yoga from any claim arising from your participation in these classes or your use of any recording.
This release does not, and cannot, cover gross negligence or willful misconduct, and nothing in it limits any right you have that the law does not allow to be waived.
You confirm all of this when you tick the consent box at registration. If you do not agree with it, please do not enrol, and write to me instead.
Age
Classes are for adults, 18 and over.
If you have any doubt
Write to me at contact@vaidehiyoga.com before you enrol.
